Notes
Above is a chart I put together detailing the ages to which 150 great composers have lived.
There was not a strict criteria used in selecting the composers to include. The composers represented were either historically significant, are currently well-known or famous, or else simply admired by myself.
In data like this it is always the extremes that are the most interesting. In this case, it is interesting to note many of the big names like Schubert, Mozart, Purcell, Bizet, Mendelssohn, Gershwin, Weber, and Chopin never made it to 40 years of age.
The top of this chart is dominated by more recent composers, as one would expect, but there are some surprisingly long-lived composers from earlier centuries as well, such as Giovanni Furno, J.B. Cramer, G.P. Telemann, William Byrd, Thomas Tallis, and Joseph Haydn.
I hope this is informative both for the hobbyist as well as those doing any research.
I have included a downloadable PDF at the bottom of this page, but if I can provide any other formats that would be helpful to you, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me using the contact information on this website.
Happy Exploring~
